🔔 When notifications don't arrive

Notifications appear only when all of the settings below allow them. If notifications don't arrive, check them in order from the top.

First, open Settings in the app. If Notifications says "Notifications are on for this device", the app is set up. If it says "Notifications are not set up on this device", press "Turn on". If it says notifications are blocked, follow the steps for your OS below.

On the sending device, if the target next to the Send button is set to "Don't notify", items are only kept in the tray and no notification is sent.

Windows (PC)

Windows has several notification settings, and if any one of them is off, notifications won't appear. Go to Settings → System → Notifications and check the following in order.

  1. Make sure the main Notifications switch is on.
  2. Make sure Do not disturb is off. You can also turn it on or off with the 🌙 at the top right of the notification center (Win + N). If "When playing a game" or "When using an app in full-screen mode" is checked under "Turn on do not disturb automatically", Do not disturb can stay on after a game or video ends.
  3. In the app list below, make sure both "Google Chrome" and "Pushany" are on. Installing the PWA registers "Pushany" as its own app, but some notifications may still appear under Chrome's name. If only one of them is on, you may miss some notifications.
  4. Click each app name and make sure "Show notification banners" is checked. Otherwise, notifications only appear in the notification center.
Windows settings look correct, but notifications don't arrive
  1. Fully restart Chrome. Right-click the Chrome icon in the system tray, select "Exit", and open Chrome again. Closing the window leaves Chrome running in the background, and the connection that receives notifications can stay disconnected.
  2. Check Chrome's site permissions. Go to chrome://settings/content/notifications and make sure this site is listed under "Allowed".
  3. If notifications still don't arrive, turn notifications off and on again in the app's Settings.
Notifications appear as "Google Chrome" instead of "Pushany"

Due to a known limitation of Chrome on Windows, even an installed PWA may show notifications under Chrome's name. The app can't change this. To receive notifications with the "Pushany" name and icon, install the PWA with Microsoft Edge. Edge integrates more closely with Windows, so notifications appear under the app's name. Steps: open this site in Edge → select "Install this site as an app" in the address bar → turn on notifications in the installed window.

iPhone

  1. Are you opening the app from your Home Screen? On iPhone, sites opened directly in Safari can't receive notifications. Tap the Share button, select "Add to Home Screen", and open the app from that icon. iOS 16.4 or later is required.
  2. In iOS Settings → Notifications → Pushany, make sure "Allow Notifications" is on.
  3. Make sure Focus (such as Do Not Disturb) is off, or that Pushany is on its list of allowed apps.
  4. Make sure the app's Settings say "Notifications are on for this device". If they say notifications aren't set up, tap "Turn on".
iPhone settings look correct, but notifications don't arrive
  1. Close the app completely and open it again. To close it, swipe it up in the app switcher.
  2. Turn notifications off and on again in the app's Settings.
  3. If notifications still don't arrive, remove Pushany from the Home Screen, open it in Safari, add it to the Home Screen again, and turn notifications on.

Android

  1. In Android Settings → Apps → Pushany → Notifications, make sure "Allow notifications" is on. If Pushany isn't in the app list, for example because you added it with Chrome's "Add to Home screen", check pushany.app under "Sites" in Settings → Apps → Chrome → Notifications.
  2. Make sure Silent / Do Not Disturb mode is off.
  3. Make sure the app's Settings say "Notifications are on for this device". If they say notifications aren't set up, tap "Turn on".
Notifications appear in the list but don't pop up on screen

Notifications from apps installed through Chrome (PWAs) don't pop up by default. Unlike apps such as LINE, a PWA can't request pop-ups. Once you turn this on, the setting stays on for that device.

  1. Open Android Settings → Apps → Pushany → Notifications. This is the same place as above.
  2. Tap the notification category (such as "General").
  3. Turn on "Pop on screen" or "Pop-up". If your phone doesn't have this option, set the importance to "High" or "Urgent".

Option names vary by phone and Android version. On Galaxy phones, if Settings → Notifications → "Notification pop-up style" is set to "Brief", notifications appear small. If you uninstall and reinstall the app, this setting turns off again.
