The first things to do, step by step: from creating your account to sending to your other devices and making notes and checklists.
Create your account
Open Pushany and tap “Sign in with Google”. You can also sign in with GitHub or X.
Your account is created the first time you sign in.
Each sign-in method creates a separate account. Sign in the same way on your other devices too. You can link other methods later under “Sign-in methods” in Settings → Account.
First setup
Choose your account name (@name). Use lowercase letters, numbers and _, then tap Next. Others use this @name to share notes or checklists with you. You can change it later in Settings → Account.
Save a passkey or a recovery key. On devices that support passkeys, you’ll see “Save with a passkey”. If you don’t want to use a passkey, tap “Use a recovery key”.
Keep your recovery key. Use Copy or “Save to file”, and keep it somewhere safe, such as a password manager. Check “I’ve saved it somewhere safe (such as a password manager)”, then tap “Get started”.
Even after saving a passkey, it’s a good idea to save your recovery key too. It unlocks your data on devices where your passkey isn’t available. If you tap Later, you can start without saving the recovery key.
Your passkey and recovery key are what get your data back if you lose your device. Your data is stored encrypted, so if you lose both, not even the operator can recover it. For details, see How encryption works.
Add to your home screen
Once the first setup is done, “Getting started with Pushany” appears above the tray. Follow it to add Pushany to your home screen.
iPhone: In Safari, tap Share (□↑) → “Add to Home Screen”, then open the app from that icon. On iPhone, notifications only work when the app is opened from the home screen.
Android: In Chrome, open the menu (⋮) → “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.
Computer: Use the install button at the right of the address bar to open it as an app. It also works without installing.
Turn on notifications
Tap “Turn on” in the getting started guide and allow notifications when your browser asks. To turn them on later, tap “Turn on” in Settings → Notifications.
Things you send from your other devices and reminders arrive as notifications. If they don’t arrive, see Notifications not arriving. The number of devices that can receive notifications depends on your plan.
Add another device
Open Pushany on the other device and sign in the same way as on your first device.
When “Decrypt your data on this device” appears, tap “Approve from another device”.
Open the app on your first device. You’ll see “A new device is asking for your encryption key”. Tap “Approve on this device”.
A 6-digit code appears on the new device. Enter it on your first device and tap Approve.
Instead of approving, you can enter your recovery key or tap “Unlock with a passkey”.
If you see a request you don’t recognize, tap Deny.
On a shared computer, turn on “Don’t save keys on this device (shared computer)”. You’re signed out when you close the browser.
Send to your other devices
The tray shows what you send between your devices.
Type text or a URL in the box in the tray. You can also attach files and photos.
Use the “Send to” picker next to the send button to choose a device. You can also choose “All devices”.
Tap Send, and a notification arrives on the devices you chose.
If you choose “Don’t notify”, the item just stays in the tray without a notification.
To keep something, use “Move to notes” in the card’s menu to turn it into a note.
On Android, once you add Pushany to your home screen, you can send from the share menu of other apps. On iPhone, use Shortcut integration.
Notes
Open Notes.
On a phone, tap “+” at the bottom right → Note. On a computer, click “New note”. On a phone, choose Photo to create a note with the photo you take attached.
What you write is saved automatically. When you’re offline, it’s saved on your device and synced once you’re back online. For things you especially want to protect, such as passwords, use locked notes.
Checklists
In Checklists, tap “+” (“New list” on a computer).
Choose a name and color for the list, then tap Done.
Use “+ Add item” to add items.
In an item’s Details, you can set a due date, a notification and a priority. To share with family or others, see Sharing notes and checklists.
Reminders
Choose a date and time with Reminder in the menu of a tray card or a note, and a notification arrives at that time.
You can also tap “New reminder” in Reminders and type what to be reminded of.
Your reminders are listed in Reminders.
Tags and search
You can add tags to tray cards and notes to organize them. Choose a tag under Tags in the menu to show only the items with that tag.
Create, rename and delete tags in “Manage tags” in the menu.
In Tray, Notes and Checklists, use the search icon at the top to search. Encrypted data is searched on your device. The first search may take a while to prepare.
